THE COSMIC UNDERGROUND

The Cosmic Underground would be a Decalog with no direct links between the stories, the authors instead being encouraged to write with the minimum of contrivances. Thematic unity would come via the story titles, which all derive from the (infamous) first Velvet Underground LP.

The song titles (and therefore the story titles) are as follows:

  • Sunday Morning
  • Waiting for the Man
  • Femme Fatale
  • Venus in Furs
  • Run, Run, Run
  • All Tomorrow’s Parties
  • Heroin
  • There She Goes Again
  • I’ll Be Your Mirror
  • Black Angel’s Death Song
  • European Son

    These titles are powerful, diverse, and will hopefully give rise to some very interesting and atmospheric tales. The intention would be to aim at a wide range of styles: ‘Run, Run, Run’ could be a hearty action romp of capture and escape; ‘All Tomorrow’s Parties’ and ‘Ill Be Your Mirror’ would seem to reflect an interest in the personal and the internal; ‘Black Angel’s Death Song’ sounds dark and apocalyptic; and ‘European Son’ could easily be a political satire. Of course, the authors might decide to do something completely different!
